Job Description:

The Coordinator of Safety Planning for the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance will support emergency operations planning and training at the University of Massachusetts Boston. S/he is responsible for the planning, organization and management of all emergency response activities, including development, implementation, and review of emergency action plans, procedures and training. The Coordinator will: assist in the development, implementation, testing and maintenance of Emergency Preparedness, Response and Continuity of Operations Plans; assist in ensuring the development of comprehensive, fully integrated response and recovery plans; be responsible for the continuous development, updating and improvement of emergency and business continuity plans; consult with senior management to strategically develop and enhance emergency preparedness policies and procedures; work with subject matter experts to guide and coordinate efforts of staff members in the development of recovery procedures; collaborate with specified campus departments to plan for, respond to, recover from and mitigate local crises; evaluate communication needs and facilitate training of university employees involved in emergency preparedness; expand ongoing partnerships with local, state and federal agencies involved in emergency preparedness; assist in the preparation of capital and operational requests to support emergency preparedness; work with IT professionals to ensure the development of continuity of operations plans; represent the campus system wide through attendance at various meetings; develop and oversee the implementation of programs to educate and raise awareness; ensure compliance with emergency planning and business continuity plans; develop programs to encourage and assist in compliance with emergency planning and business continuity; assist in the implementation of emergency management support activities; and other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree in a management or related field preferred. 5-7 years experience in organizational administration, strategic communications, emergency planning, or business operations required, preferably in higher education setting. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Demonstrated ability to deal with the public in an effective and courteous manner. Strong working knowledge of emergency management procedures, practices and regulations, including response planning, development of comprehensive response protocols, planning emergency drills and grant submission/management. Strong organizational skills and the ability to effectively manage complex projects. Excellent problem solving and presentation skills. Familiarity with university financial systems preferred. Superior knowledge of personal computer hardware and software. Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a diverse environment and in a complex organizational structure.
